What you'll discover
How It Works
Find your exact birth Nakshatra, pada, rashi, and Nakshatra lord from your date of birth, birth time, and birthplace — the Moon-based foundation of Vedic astrology.
We calculate the precise sidereal degree of your Moon using Swiss Ephemeris with Chitra Paksha ayanamsa, then map it against the 27 Nakshatras — each spanning 13°20' of the zodiac. The specific pada (quarter) is also calculated, narrowing your birth star signature to a 3°20' band of sky.
Your Janma Nakshatra is the birth star of your Moon. It is more specific than Moon sign or rashi alone, and it sets the starting point for Vimshottari Dasha, Nakshatra compatibility checks, and many Vedic personality interpretations.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Nakshatra by date of birth?+
To find your Nakshatra accurately, enter your birth date, exact birth time, and birthplace. The calculator computes the Moon's sidereal longitude at birth and maps it to one of the 27 Nakshatras. Birth time and place matter because the Moon moves quickly and the local timezone affects the exact chart.
What is a Nakshatra pada?+
Each Nakshatra is divided into 4 padas, or quarters, of 3°20' each. The pada gives a more precise reading than the Nakshatra name alone and links the Moon's placement to the Navamsa (D9) chart. This is why a full Nakshatra calculator should show both Nakshatra and pada.
Is Nakshatra the same as Rashi or Moon sign?+
No. Rashi or Moon sign tells you which 30° zodiac sign the Moon occupied at birth. Nakshatra divides the sky into smaller 13°20' lunar mansions, so it is more specific. A person can share the same Moon rashi with someone else but have a different Nakshatra and pada.
Why is Janma Nakshatra important in Vedic astrology?+
Janma Nakshatra is the Nakshatra of the Moon at birth. It is used for Vimshottari Dasha timing, compatibility checks, naming syllables, Muhurta considerations, and emotional temperament. Many Vedic calculations begin from the birth Nakshatra rather than the Sun sign.
